Wi-Fi Alliance Re-Affirms Interoperability Certification for Meru Network’s Wireless LAN System

Meru’s Standards-based Solution Holds Industry Record of 30 Dial-Tone Quality VoIP Mobility Calls

Sunnyvale, CA– March 23, 2005

Meru Networks, the world leader Enterprise VoIP mobility infrastructure, today announced that the Wi-Fi Alliance has reaffirmed Meru’s Wireless LAN System’s compliance with the alliance’s certification standards. While Meru’s product was already certified as Wi-Fi compliant, Meru resubmitted its product to the Wi-Fi Alliance to undergo even more rigorous tests than are used on its competitors. The results show that Meru is completely compliant with Wi-Fi standards and does not interfere or compromise any co-resident systems that are also Wi-Fi certified.

"The 802.11 standard allows for WLAN systems to be designed for technological advancement while remaining compliant,” said David Willis, Vice President at META Group, a leading provider of research, advisory services, and strategic consulting. “Fortunately, products can work within the standard and still offer differentiated features such as better scalability and performance.”

Meru Cellular WLAN Architecture Continues to Set Standard for High Density Voice Support

One of Meru’s key technology differentiators, its Cellular WLAN architecture, features a coordinated transmission approach that recovers almost all the rated bandwidth for productive purposes, such as supporting dial-tone quality voice. In third party testing conducted as far back as 2003, Meru Networks established the benchmark for wireless VoIP by proving that its access points are able to support 30 dial-tone quality voice calls over 802.11b, a record that stands to this day. The testing, conducted by the Tolly Group, was performed with a completely standards-based 802.11b environment. Details on this record-setting performance can be viewed on Meru Networks website at http://www.merunetworks.com/Tolly_Report.pdf.

This performance has been the key differentiator that helped Meru win agreements with three of the top four VoIP vendors in Japan. Oki Electric, Hitachi High-Technologies, and Fujitsu I-Networks, three of the top four Voice-Over-IP (VoIP) vendors in Japan, recently chose Meru as the WLAN infrastructure supplier for end-to-end Enterprise VoIP mobility solutions. Each decision was based on stringent evaluations that required both standards-based solutions and advanced VoIP mobility capabilities.

“Meru has delivered a Wi-Fi solution engineered to provide vastly superior performance for both voice and data applications,” said Kamal Anand, vice president of marketing at Meru Networks. “Given our advances, it’s not surprising that those who don’t understand how to implement these more advanced systems will attempt to discredit our approach. We were happy to prove again that our systems are fully compliant with 802.11 industry standards, while also uniquely delivering the capabilities to support dial tone voice over Wi-Fi.”
