Meru Networks Dominates Advanced Wireless LAN Market

Oki, Hitachi, Fujitsu Integrate Meru Wireless LAN to Deliver Comprehensive Enterprise Mobility Solutions

Sunnyvale, CA– March 7, 2005

Meru Networks, the world leader in dial-tone quality Enterprise VoIP mobility infrastructure, today strengthened its position through key partnerships and new customers in Japan, the world’s most advanced and demanding VoIP mobility market. Based on the technical superiority of its standards-based Cellular WLAN Architecture, Meru has been chosen as the WLAN infrastructure supplier for end-to-end Enterprise VoIP mobility solutions offered by Oki Electric, Hitachi High-Technologies, and Fujitsu I-Networks.

Meru Networks also announced that its Wireless LAN system, providing dial-tone quality Wi-Fi voice, has been deployed with dual-mode Wi-Fi/cellular NTT DoComo handsets at a leading Japanese office and retail furnishings manufacturer, and, with Hitachi-Cable Wi-Fi handsets, for the world’s largest dial-tone quality VoIP and data service deployment at a premier 500-room hotel in Osaka, Japan.

"The last few years have seen a lot of hype and planning around voice over IP, but this year is shaping up to be a different story," said Richard Webb, Directing Analyst of Wireless LANs at Infonetics Research. "Our recent study projects that over 90 percent of organizations using WLANs have employees using mobile or cellular phones to make internal business calls, and this presents a significant opportunity for enterprise VoIP over Wi-Fi. As voice applications make wireless LANs more desirable and mobility makes VoIP more valuable, the two trends necessitate a powerful mobile voice solution, and Meru Networks is showing leadership in this area."

Advanced Japan Market Embraces Meru’s Leading Technology

Meru’s clear technology leadership was the key to establishing partnerships with Hitachi High-Technologies, Oki Electric, and Fujitsu I-Networks, three of Japan’s top four VoIP system manufacturers and solution providers. Under similar arrangements with each company, Meru will become the infrastructure supplier for fully integrated, SIP-based mobile VoIP solutions offered by these partners and their resellers throughout Japan and worldwide.

After extensive testing, Hitachi High-Technologies, Oki Electric Industries, and Fujitsu I-Networks have all certified that Meru’s Cellular WLAN architecture supports high-volume, dial-tone quality wireless VoIP. Only Meru offers guaranteed, client-specific quality of service and seamless Wi-Fi coverage, making it the ideal infrastructure for end-to-end mobile VoIP infrastructure. The three companies have incorporated and deployed the Meru offering with their SIP servers, their Wi-Fi handsets and dual-mode Cellular/Wi-Fi handsets.

Large Customer Traction Showcases Meru’s Wireless VoIP Capabilities

In addition to its new strategic partnerships, Meru also announced the addition of new customers, whose deployments represent some of the world’s largest and most sophisticated implementations of enterprise VoIP mobility.

Itoki, the largest office and retail furnishings manufacturer in Japan with 55 branches, has adopted Meru’s Wireless LAN system as the basis of a converged Wi-Fi/3G mobile voice and data solution. Using handsets supplied by NTT DoCoMo and SIP servers from Oki, the Itoki deployment delivers a new level of mobile connectivity to employees. By allowing users to transparently roam from a wireless LAN-based VoIP service to NTT DoCoMo’s 3G mobile voice network using the same handset, the Meru-based system increases productivity and completely eliminates the need for multiple desktop and cellular phones.

Additionally, a leading 500-room, 28-floor international hotel in Osaka’s new business center has also selected Meru’s Wireless LAN system to support IP voice and data services throughout its luxurious facilities. Based on Meru’s standards-based 802.11 WLAN infrastructure and Hitachi Cable’s SIP-based Wireless IP (WIP5000) phones, the deployment will initially help improve communications among the hotel’s employees to increase operational efficiency, while wireless IP data services will be available to employees and guests in the hotel’s guest rooms, lobbies, conference center, and meeting rooms.

“With the industry’s most advanced standards-based technology enabling our Cellular Wireless LAN architecture, Meru is leading the world in Enterprise VoIP mobility adoption,” said Ihab Abu-Hakima, CEO of Meru Networks. “By providing a voice-ready wireless infrastructure today, Meru is enabling its customers to support the advanced applications now with a single, converged network that will handle future needs as well.”
