NEW YORK, NY (June 26, 2008) – buzzd, a location-based
city guide and social network on the mobile device, has just
announced that it has amassed a database of over 1.2 million
venues across the United States with reviews, address and other
features after launching just four months ago.
Now consumers in major U.S. metropolitan areas can answer
‘What's going on around me, right now?’ from trusted listings,
alongside real-time user generated content (UGC). In fact,
member-inputted venues are fast becoming a growing segment of
the buzzd service.
A Mini-Wikipedia of Local Entertainment
Currently one in 10 venues on the buzzd network have been added
by the buzzd community itself and, thanks to a new user
submission tool, additions are verified by buzzd before posting
to avoid the duplication of venues and events.
"In local entertainment, venues change their name, management,
ownership and location often, so a consistently updated,
crowd-sourced database is key to finding out the best events and
places to enjoy," said Nihal Mehta, CEO and Co-founder of buzzd.
How It Works:
buzzd answers the question “What’s going on around me right
now?” and delivers location-sensitive, premium editorial event
and venue information, along with up-to-the-minute reviews and
ratings from friends and other members of the buzzd community.
Users can also browse and search continuously updated event
feeds which include pricing, location and event details as well
as the firsthand ratings and reviews posted from the venue by
other members. Events and locations are available nationally and
aggregated through partnerships with CitySearch, Flavorpill,
TimeOut New York and Zagat, with plans to roll out even more
content partnerships in local markets. User-generated feedback
(or “buzzes”) for real-time activity surrounding venues and
events is also aggregated at the top of event listings
throughout the platform.
Currently, Friday is the biggest day of buzzd usage, followed by
Saturday and then Thursday. The most popular cities, in order,
are:
• New York
• San Francisco
• Chicago
• Los Angeles
• Miami
• London, UK
In addition to their partnership deals with CitySearch,
Flavorpill, TimeOut New York and Zagat, buzzd has done deals
with brands such as Jim Beam, MyOpenBar, Nokia and Bonnaroo, the
world's largest music and arts festival. Currently, buzzd can
also be accessed on-deck with Helio and the company will be
announcing on-deck deals with other major carriers in the coming
weeks.
Free for All
In addition to the current and upcoming on-deck carrier deals,
buzzd can be accessed by the 1.5 billion phones on the planet
that have WAP access or the 3.5 billion phones that have SMS
capabilities. On top of this, the buzzd service is free and
requires no downloads or subscriptions.
